Yes - employers can still dismiss employees during probation. However, from January 2027, UK unfair dismissal protection starts after six months' service instead of two years. That means probation processes will need tighter management, clearer documentation and fairer reviews. Extending probation won't delay employee rights once the six month threshold is reached.
